THE ULTIMATE TOASTIE…TRUFFLE CHEESE & TRUFFLE SALAMI!

I love a cheese toastie, or as the American’t call it, a grilled cheese sandwich. There is nothing better than biting into that crunchy toast to be met with that soft, melted, gooey cheese. Incredible. So tonight when I was looking through my fridge contemplating what to have for dinner, I saw some black truffle Gouda and the end of a truffle salami, both of which I got from Amsterdam.

By the way, this truffle Gouda is probably one of the best cheeses I have ever tasted.  It is, quite frankly, spectacular. Its soft and creamy yet pungent and just bloody delicious.

So I decided the best way to finish off my remaining truffle cheese and salami would be to make the ultimate cheese & ham toastie.

I grated the cheese and sliced the salami…

Then spread them onto a slice of bread which I had buttered on the outside.

Then, with the other slice of bread on top of the cheese, butter side up, I placed the sandwich on a hot frying pan, butter side down.

I then turned the heat down and put a lid on the pan. This helps the cheese to melt without the bread burning.

After a few minutes, check the underside of the bread and when its golden brown and toasted, turn over.

Toast on the other side for another few minutes until the cheese is melted and its beautifully golden. At this stage, the smell of the truffle warming in the pan was intoxicating.

Slice in half and devour!

Amazing.

Wow, this looks delicious. I like your idea of using a lidded pan, I’m always wary of frying my cheese toasties as I’m convinced the bread will burn and the cheese won’t be melted.
