I recently wrote about my visit to A Little Of What You Fancy on Kingsland Road, Dalston. As I said then, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about my breakfast there so when my friend Lisa suggested going out for breakfast on Sunday, I immediately suggested walking down there to see if we could get in.
As we walked in (I nearly walked past it again!), it looked pretty busy but they had some space at their large table towards the back so we sat down, ordered a bloody mary and a buck’s fizz and poured over the menu. I was looking for what I had the last time – chorizo and avocado on sourdough topped with greek yoghurt, sweet chilli jam and a poached egg.
But alas, it wasn’t on there.
I do like when restaurants regularly change their menus as at least I know they’re not just resting on their laurels. And it also forces me to order different things instead of opting for something I’ve tried before and loved. To be fair though, I didn’t stray too far from what I had the last time. I woke up on Sunday morning already thinking of chorizo so I pounced on their scrambled eggs with chorizo and pan roast tomatoes on toast…
This was delicious. The scrambled eggs were really creamy and the smokiness of the chorizo added a lovely dimension to the dish. I actually think chorizo might be the best way to start most days! The waitress told us they get their chorizo from Brindisa in Borough Market. They start by pan frying it and then they pop it in the oven. It was so juicy and smoky…I still can’t stop thinking about it!
Lisa went for homemade bacon and maple baked-beans with a fried egg on toast. I didn’t get a photo of this but it tasted lovely. Perhaps too many beans and not enough egg though. Once she’d finished her egg, she didn’t really want to eat a plate of beans! But one more egg on there would have done the trick.
I love this little place. Next time I want to go back for dinner. If they do breakfasts this good, I can’t wait to try their dinner menu.
